Features · Patient chat
They're already asking ChatGPT.
This one knows their chart.
Your members already paste their medication lists into ChatGPT, and you never see what it tells them. Patient chat puts that assistant inside your app, under your name. It works from their chart, says plainly that it is AI, and saves every conversation where your clinical team can read it.

What is my lisinopril for, and when should I take it?
Lisinopril lowers blood pressure. Your prescription from Dr. Chen says to take one tablet by mouth once a day. If you want to change when you take it, message your care team first.
From your chart
Lisinopril 10 mg tablet
Take 1 tablet by mouth daily · Dr. Chen
Your care team can read this conversation. For an emergency, call 911.
Why inside your app
The conversation is happening anyway. Bring it where you can see it.
Members type their prescriptions and symptoms into ChatGPT today. It doesn't know what Dr. Chen prescribed, it doesn't know which visits you offer, and you never see what it told them.
Inside your app, the assistant answers under your practice's name, works from the member's chart, and saves every conversation where your clinical team can read it. The questions don't change. Where they're asked does.
What it knows
It answers from their chart, and says when it's only general information.
Each reply works from the member's current prescriptions, the visit types you offer, and the recent conversation. When a medication or an open appointment time is relevant, it shows a read-only card from the chart instead of describing it from memory.
It keeps what the chart says apart from general education, and it treats anything it wasn't given as unknown. If a member's recent readings aren't in front of it, it says so rather than guessing.

How the reply reads
- From her chart Your chart lists lisinopril 10 mg, one tablet a day, from Dr. Chen.
- General Lisinopril is commonly used to lower blood pressure.
- Unknown I can't see your recent readings, so I can't say how well it is working.
Visibility and control
Off until you turn it on. Readable by your team once you do.
Chat never forwards anything to your team. The record is there whenever you need it.
- 01
Turn it on for your practice
Patient chat is off until an owner or administrator turns it on. You set how many messages each member can send in a day.
- 02
Members see what it is
Before they chat, members are told they are talking to AI, not a clinician; that the conversation is saved and your clinical team can view it; and that it is not automatically sent to or reviewed by a clinician. Chat won't take a message until they agree.
- 03
Your clinical team can read any conversation
Every message and reply is saved, along with any cards shown. Clinical members of your care team can open any member's conversations, and each time someone does, it is recorded.
- 04
Adjust it for one member
Turn chat off for an individual member, or give them a different daily limit, without changing anyone else. Each change is recorded with who made it.
What it won't do
It explains. It doesn't decide.
The assistant won't diagnose, prescribe, recommend starting, stopping, or changing a medication, or judge whether a symptom can wait. When a question needs clinical judgment, it points the member to your care team. If someone describes an emergency, it tells them to call 911 now.
It can't book a visit, send a refill, or message anyone for the member, and it never claims your practice has read, reviewed, or approved anything. Booking still goes through the normal confirmation in your app.
Instructions tucked into a message, or into a medication name on the chart, are read as text, not followed as commands.

My readings have been around 150 all week. Should I take two lisinopril tonight instead of one?
I can't recommend changing your dose. That is a decision for Dr. Chen. Your chart lists lisinopril 10 mg, one tablet a day. Send your care team a message with your readings so they can advise you.
Can you just tell Dr. Chen for me?
I can't send messages for you, and this chat isn't watched in real time. Please message your care team directly. If you have chest pain or trouble breathing, call 911 now.
The details
Private, bounded, and yours to switch off.
- Runs in our AWS account
- Chat runs privately in our AWS account, through a private gateway assigned to your practice. There is no fallback to an outside AI service.
- Under your name
- It introduces itself as your practice's care companion. Members see your practice, not ours.
- Honest about what it is
- Members are told it is AI, not a clinician, and that conversations are saved and not automatically reviewed by one.
- Cards that only display
- A reply can show up to three cards: a recorded medication, or open times for a visit type on a date the member asked about. Cards never book, refill, or change the chart.
- Unknown means unknown
- Chart data may be limited or out of date, and the assistant says so. A missing entry is never read as a negative finding.
- Instructions are just text
- A message, a past reply, or a medication name that tries to give it orders is read as text. Requests to change its role or look up another patient are ignored.
- Daily limits
- Each member can send 20 messages a day by default, with a monthly cap on top. You can change the default for your practice or for one member.
- Nothing forwarded
- Chat doesn't route anything to your inbox. Members still message your care team directly when they need a person.
- Emergencies go to 911
- If a member describes an emergency or thoughts of self-harm, it tells them to get emergency help now, not to wait for a reply.
